The key to living forever

Is it even possible to live forever? Is there really an answer to this question or is it just so farfetched that it is foolish to talk about it? Yes, it is possible, very possible. And the answer lies with where we originate from, where we were first formed as human beings.

  • Genesis 2:7 - “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the Breath (Spirit) of life; and man became a living soul”

From that very moment, Adam became an eternal, living human, because God is eternal and His breath, His Spirit, is eternal — no beginning and no end. The Breath of God also enabled Adam to fellowship with God, as his body knew no death at that point and he could prevail in the presence of the Eternal Living God.

But Adam disobeyed God and sinned against God when he partook of the tree of Knowledge of good and evil, and he lost that life (Breath of God / Holy Spirit)

Genesis 2: 17 - “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” — lose the Breath of God/Breath of life/Spirit / Ruach

The disobedience of Adam caused God to put a limit to our life span — no longer eternal life. Death entered in when Adam disobeyed and man became mortal and was separated from God.

  • Genesis 3: 19 - “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

THERE IS ONLY ONE SIN IN THE WORLD = DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD AND HIS WORD.

  • Romans 5:19 “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”

God loves us, His creation, so much that His love compelled Him to redeem us from death, eternal death. And the way to save us was by giving us back the Breath of Life, the Ruach, His Spirit. The only way He could do that was for man to be obedient, unto death. God did that through Jesus.

John 3:16 - ”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Jesus was obedient in all things that the Father asked of Him. Jesus was the only one who could be a sacrifice for us because He had no sin and obeyed God perfectly.

  • Philippians 2:8 - “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

  • John 8:29 - “And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”

The obedience of Jesus destroyed our sins, and He had the victory over death and Satan when He was raised from the death by the power of the Holy Spirit (The Breath of God).

  • Romans 8:11- “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

  • 1 Cor 15:45- 'And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.'

Therefore, Jesus is the only way to the Father and eternal life, because He defeated death when He rose from the dead after three days.

How do we get the breath of life back? By being born again through re-birth.

Jesus explained this to Nicodemus in John 3:1-8 in the following way:

  • John 3:3 - “…Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”

  • John 3:6–8 - ”That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

We need to be born again of the spirit and water. When a baby is born, it is born in water (the amniotic fluid). The baptism in water is an outward sign of our new birth. But we also need to be born again in the spirit. When we get born again, the gift of the Holy Spirit (Breath of God) is given to us, to dwell within us, to make us living souls again, as explained by Peter.

  • Acts 2:38. - 'Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”'

The gift is the Spirit / breath of God / breath of Life within us. The first thing a baby needs to do when it is born, is to breathe. The first thing we as born again children of God need to do, is to breathe in the Breath of God. From that very moment, we become eternal living beings again. Our spirits are renewed and we are made new in Christ Jesus, because of our obedience in accepting the gift of life through Jesus.

  • John 10:10 - “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

  • V28 “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

By accepting the gift of life from Jesus, we can live forever.

Suggestion for a prayer:

Father God, thank You that You love me and that You want to spend eternity with me.

Thank you for Your Breath of life, Your Holy Spirit. Thank you for Jesus, Your Son, who died and rose again, so that I could receive Your breath of eternal life.

Forgive me for not obeying Your Word and accepting Jesus as my Savior. I repent of that, Lord, and ask You now to come and breathe Your Spirit of Life over me so that I can be born again and receive life abundantly.

Thank you, Jesus, for dying for me so that I can live. Thank you, Jesus, for sending the Holy Spirit to me as my Helper so that I can live a life that glorifies God.

Holy Spirit, I ask for Your help and guidance to live a life that is worthy of the gift of Jesus and that You will bring to my remembrance all the things that Jesus told us to do. Teach me the ways of the Kingdom of God.

Thank you, Lord, that I am now born again and part of Your family.

In Jesus' Name

Amen
